A pleurodesis is a treatment to address the repeated occurrence of a collapsed lung, or fluid buildup between the lung and chest wall lining. The treatment works via medications (doxycycline or talc powder) that are delivered into the space between the lung and chest wall. This causes irritation or swelling between the two layers and helps the lung cling to the wall of the chest to stop the buildup of fluid or air in the space, thereby keeping the lung inflated.
