Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is surgery to replace a torn ACL — a major ligament in your knee. The surgery is an outpatient procedure that involves removing torn ligament and replacing it with a tendon from another part of the knee or a deceased donor. ACL injuries often occur during sports that have sudden stops, changes in direction, and landings from jumps. These include basketball, soccer, football, downhill skiing, and gymnastics.
