Sciatica is radiating pain along the sciatic nerve, which runs down one or both legs from the lower back. The condition occurs due to a herniated disk or bone spur in the spine pressing on the nerve. Symptoms include one-sided pain originating in the spine and radiating down the back of the leg. Treatments include self-care, medication such as anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) or muscle relaxants, physical therapy, and surgery.
