A herniated disc, also known as a bulged, slipped or ruptured disc, is an issue with one of the discs between the vertebrae that make up the spine. The condition occurs when the soft center of a spinal disk pushes through a crack in the more hardened exterior casing. Symptoms range from no signs to irritation of nearby nerves resulting in pain, numbness, and weakness in an arm or leg. Treatments include medication, physical therapy, and surgery.
